Nothing's the Matter with Kansas

In the first caucus since Romney's departure left the GOP nomination a two-man race, Huckabee beats McCain by a whopping 61 to 22%! (With 3/4 of precincts reporting - exact final tally may change.)

One of the central claims of the book "What's the Matter with Kansas" is that economic conservatives have taken advantage of social conservatives, taking their votes and activism for granted while not actually delivering on the social issues and promoting economic policies that undermine the very family values the social conservatives care about.

Whatever else you might think of this book, today's Kansas caucus proves that social conservatives are not dupes, and they are working hard to wrest control of the GOP away from the country club Republicans who think they can just use and abuse the real foot soldiers of the party.

Mike Huckabee is a great Presidential candidate to represent American families because, unlike John McCain, he combines:

  • Rock solid commitment to defending the sanctity of life and marriage;
  • Understanding that both tax cuts and infrastructure investments stimulate the economy and the well-being of all Americans -- wise governance is balancing the two;
  • Conviction that free markets are generally good, but don't come before families; and
  • Commitment to do everything possible to stop the loss of American jobs and national security to illegal immigrants and foreign nations.

McCain has many heterodoxies from the economic conservatives too, but ultimately he is still a country club Republican:

  • Supports giving amnesty to illegals, so the rich can continue to support their lavish lifestyles with very cheap labor;
  • Has no commitment to supporting pro-life or pro-marriage issues;
  • Dumped his first wife after an accident left her less attractive, to marry into wealth;
  • Shut down many sources of funding for political activity, making grassroots challenges to the Washington status quo more difficult, and ceding more power to the wealthy lobbyists who expect to buy "access" with $2,300 checks.

Let the country club pundits convince us the race is over? No way! Kansas has spoken, and the heartland Republicans have declared loud and clear: WE are the GOP.

You go girl! I LOVE it!

Silent Souls for Huckabee

P.S. I put the image from your daughter via ultrasound on the background of a SILENT SOULS FOR HUCKABEE button. It's very cool, but I'll need some more members before we get them printed. And, of course, I'll need to show you (and little gal) first! Please pray we get some more members. We are powerful. Our prayers are heard 50 million-fold.

Go, Huck, Go!

Love your blog, I email it to my 20 something kids who are liberal, and they love it to..

Keep making your points, you definitely cross the generations and say it very very well.

Praying for a miracle this week in Virginia (where I was born and raised), and Maryland (where I have lived my adult life). There are a lot of social conservatives in both places, but like you said, there a tons of "country club Republicans" because we live so close to the seat of power. Keep it up, K Street Mole!!!!!

Huckabee is not only running for President, but running for leadership of the post-2008 conservative movement.

Mike is running to win. Few are aware that in eight years Huckabee will still be younger than Romney is today. He is younger than any contender except Obama.

There are many story lines in the GOP race which are being ignored.

RELEASE ROMNEY DELEGATES
If Romney wants to play a post-2008role he needs to release his delegates OR resume campaigning. Romney financial supporters and delegates are going to get increasingly annoyed at MR when they see Huckabee racking up wins and getting by-passed because Mitt wimped out and is holding captive delegates.

MORE “FUZZY MATH”?
The hype about needing to win 85% of the remaining delegates is just McCain agit-prop.

With Romney’s delegates free to vote their conscience, the race will get much closer, and that figure drops to the 60% range. A string of Huckabee victories will bring this all into play.

If McCain is stopped on the first ballot, all pledges get released in any event.

WASHINGTON LONG COUNT
The long count in Washington state should be a bigger story. It was stopped with Huckabee behind by about 200 and maybe 1200 votes to count. Uncounted votes are like dairy products out of the frig, they go rotten after a few hours. The principal way to steal an election is to stop the count, and open up the potential for ballot-tampering.

This is run by the Party, which declared JM the winner. “Straight Talk” reformer John McCain should be called upon to join us in asking for all votes to be counted and re-counted, and to investigate the circumstances of what happened.

A binding vote of some sort comes up in Washington on Feb 19th, this issue needs to be brought out to focus attention on the next step in the Washington process.

MCCAIN VULNERABILITIES
In other upcoming primaries, Virginia, Ohio and Texas Republican voters are now going to support an open borders candidate in JM? I don’t think so. This is what’s behind Rick Perry pressuring Huckabee to quit the race. Even in Pennsylvania, illegal immigration has been a hot issue in small Republican towns heavily impacted by illegals. The NY Times endorsement admits that there is no substantive change in the JM immigration position. This will eventually come out.

BREAKING OUT OF THE BUBBA/EVANGELICAL GHETTO
Huckabee has been dismissed as a Southern/ religious candidate. That is getting old. Close votes in Washington? Missouri? In some states he has been getting 40%-plus of women and 18-29 voters. They’re not all church members. He is starting to break out into other constituencies.

PAUL IS OUT—WHEN MCCAIN VS. HUCKABEE DEBATES?
He has announced he will now concentrate on winning his Congressional primary, so he has effectively suspended his Presidential campaign too. This sets up a series on one-on-one debates. Voters really like this, with the O vs. HRC debates getting the biggest viewer ratings yet.

Can McCain stand up to the pressure of one focused, skilled debater that will force answers and details on taxes, immigration, judges, Kyoto treaty tax increases?

Will the infamous McCain temper stay bottled up in a high-stakes debate? If not, how will he ever contend with O or HRC in the fall?

Get Mike to ask Condi Rice to be his running mate, and watch him run all the way to the White House. Condi is smart, articulate, and well seasoned, not to mention that she will counter any woman/African-American candidate that he will eventually face in the final run.
