While I've Been Preoccupied

I'm ashamed to admit that nearly three weeks have gone by since my last blog post about the Huckabee campaign. In the interim, he has leapfrogged into place as an (the?) undeniable frontrunner in the GOP primary, according to a plethora of polls. Perhaps Huckabee is better off the less I blog? :(

But hoping this unhappy theory has no basis in fact, I apologize to readers for my long absence. I have been extremely busy at work, and Christmas preparations have consumed all my time not taken up by work. It is an unfortunately reality for those in my line of work that Congressmen suddenly decide around now that they ought to be able to tell their constituents they did something this year (particularly certain Senators as the Presidential primaries approach), just as everyone else is trying to get their Christmas shopping done.

Until the troublemakers clear out of town, I don't expect to catch up on the blog. But until then, I highly recommend to my readers interested in Catholic social teaching the following pair of articles on Catholic Online:

Commentary: Huckabee and Catholics
and
Exclusive Interview: Gov. Huckabee Speaks with Catholic Online

Until next time, may you have a blessed Advent! I hope you have done a better job preparing your heart for the coming of Christ than I have.

A VOTE FOR HUCKABEE IS A VOTE FOR HILLARY! Let me explain:

Huckabee cannot win the election. Everyone should know this. What good is his Evangelical background going to do for us Evangelicals when he loses to Hillary in November?

Outside of the Christian Right Huckabee is viewed as yet another Christian from the South with nothing else behind him. I like huckabee but Americans view him as Bush 2.0 and there is NO way Americans are about to put another Bush into office right now.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU VOTE FOR HUCKABEE AND SEND HILLARY INTO THE WHITE HOUSE:

The Christian right (and other fed up conservatives) are supporting Mike Huckabee, but the right’s pundits are not flocking to support him, and many of them are actually trying to derail him. Case in point:

Rush's Hit-Piece on Huckabee (stick with it, audio of Rush)

Something is very very very very wrong with this picture. Bottom line: The best candidate for the Republican nomination is Huckabee.

I am a youth pastor in an Evangelical church.

The supreme court is ONE judge away from overturning Roe V. Wade.

**VERY IMPORTANT:
Huckabee probably cannot win in the general election. Romney has a very good shot at winning.

**IF ROMNEY IS ELECTED IT WILL BE OVERTURNED**

Romney will appoint a pro-lifer. Romney’s LDS values are identical to Evangelical values, differing theologies are irrelevant in the Oval Office.

I like Huckabee, really, but as Evangelicals it is our duty to make sure we nominate someone who can win.

BOTTOM LINE: A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Hillary or Obama. A vote for LIFE.

I respectfully disagree with "stop hillary" / "I AM 4 LIFE". I think Romney has much less chance of winning the general election than Huckabee.

But I won't allow anti-Mormon diatribes on my blog. I am not Mormon and would never defend their theology for a moment, but that's not my issue with Romney. Moreover, when Huckabee supporters attack Mormons it only hurts Mike, because it makes it look like his campaign is about religious bigotry. So please, cut it out.

The problem with Romney is he can't connect with the ordinary voter. His personality is too plastic, and he lives in an economic bubble where he doesn't notice the pinch of stagnant wages, rising energy costs, rising health costs, etc. Huckabee is just the opposite. He can appeal to middle class swing voters because he communicates as an ordinary guy -- one of them -- and he understands and wants to address the economic pressures they are facing. The polls are now proving money can't buy an election, and all the Wall Street money on Romney won't make him palatable to Main Street.

It's not about the candidate's religions. I'm not voting for Huckabee because he was a Baptist pastor. As I'm sure you can tell from my posts, I'm Catholic! Not so long ago, Baptists and Catholics thought each other were going to hell. But my faith does tell me that promoting a culture of life doesn't stop with ending abortion. It also means that human beings come before markets. Government shouldn't get involved where it isn't needed and it needs to respect private property and the fruits of labor, but it also needs to protect the poor. I support Huckabee because he promotes all these things I believe are important in government, not because of his denominational label.

By the way, who is going to turn off the public as "Bush 2.0" - the man who questions Bush's foreign policy, or the man who criticizes the first for doing so? The fusionist pundits may fear Huckabee's compassion because of Bush's flops in the name of "compassionate conservativism," but what the general public hates about Bush is his foreign policy and arrogance, not the concept of a compassionate leader.

This is the last post I'll make. Mr. H, your going to have to stand up for certain things in life my friend - moral, Biblical things. Political correctness will be the end of us if we continue it. Let me guess, you think Islam is a religion of peace, right? Sorry, their own book teaches otherwise. So no matter how much YOU reason with yourself that Islam means peace, and Islam is peaceful, this is not what their, ahem.. "holy" book teaches. It always amazes me people who think all the enemy really needs is a hug, then everything will be okay. Journalists for example who are worried about offending Muslims in their news reports don't realize their heads would be the first to come off under Islamic rule!

"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools," Romans 1:22

Stop being so politically correct and stand up for your country!
